A week ago, we took Nathaniel to a farm where he got to see farm animals and pumpkins and lots of leaves. We all had a fantastic time, and Nathaniel was in heaven getting to touch and see so many animals. He got a little aggressive at one point...several gasps were heard when he grabbed the head of a young duck. Fortunately, no ducks were injured in the making of this family memory. After that we only let him touch the big animals.
Here's a photo of Nathaniel with the duck just before he grabbed it's head.
He carefully checked out the pumpkins, and seemed to pick one out before moving on to better things.
Nathaniel had a blast running around in the grass and playing with leaves. Despite the fact that several of the photos appear to have him eating the leaves, he really didn't eat that many. ;-) Check out the all the other farm photos here.

Turning 35
It was truly a great birthday. I started my day with a surprise hot stone massage. While I was getting my massage, Christopher picked my mother up at the airport. Christopher and I went out that night to dinner and a concert in our neighborhood. Several weeks before my birthday I read an article in the Beverly Review (yes, our neighborhood newspaper) that a local establishment, The World Music Company, was about to go under. I discovered they were going to have a special concert on my birthday to try to "Save the World." Before the concert we had dinner at another local favorite, Cafe 103. It was a great night! Where's Nathaniel?
Lately, Nathaniel has had a lot of fun playing his own version of peek-a-boo called "Where's Nathaniel?". He'll cover his face and wait for us to ask "Where's Nathaniel?" Then, he'll "surprise" us by revealing where he's hidden. He'll do this over and over. Usually, we play this game right after his bath, and he uses his towel like in the video below. Sometimes, he'll use a blanket and do it while he's standing in the living room. No matter where he does it, we think it's pretty cute!

Oktoberfest
Today we took Nathaniel to the Beverly Oktoberfest. For those unfamiliar with Chicago, Beverly is a neighborhood in the south part of Chicago (and the neighborhood we live in). The Oktoberfest was small, but it did include some live music, food, and plenty of kid activities. Nathaniel is still too young to take advantage of the activities, so he just "danced" to some of the music. Despite the cold, we had a great time.

No thanks.
Nathaniel likes his high chair tray free of clutter. So, the food we give him immediately falls into two categories: worthy enough to eat or relegated to the floor. If he finds out you are secretly catching the food he deems unworthy- he will simply start dropping the food on the other side of his tray.
Side note- we kept giving him the same piece of food to toss over while I was getting all the shots I needed. He brought the photo shoot to a halt by eventually shoving the food into his mouth... dust, dirt, and all!
What is this filth they are giving me?
I think I will just file it over here.
Bye.

Daddy's going to get you!
Nathaniel loves to play "Daddy's going to get you!" Basically, all Christopher has to do is walk across the room and Nathaniel starts squirming and giggling in my lap. To let Christopher know Nathaniel wants daddy to "get him" and to escalate Nathaniel's excitement, I'll start to say "oh, no, daddy's going to get you!" He screeches, squirms, and buries his head into my lap. Then, Christopher runs over and starts tickling Nathaniel. Here is a video clip of the tickling part.
